Girls Basketball Update

31/01/2018 Minor B Girls’ Basketball

Well done to our 1st year girls’ basketball team who won their first round match yesterday. It was a good challenge in Neptune against a tough Midleton team. The first quarter saw the girls down 4-12, and we thought it was going to be uphill from there. Thankfully the team pulled back in the second quarter with great scores from Michelle Ugweh and Orla Humphreys, taking them into the lead at 18-16 points. MIdleton’s #10 scored 22 of their points but was kept under pressure with great defense from Saoirse Breen and Orla Humphreys. It was point for point throughout the third and fourth quarters. Thankfully Saoirse and Michelle put away enough baskets to bring us up from 29-30 heading into the final quarter to the finishing score of 38-33. Michelle was Blarney’s highest scorer, scoring 20 points. Well done Michelle.

Well done to all the players who put in a great team performance in Neptune today. As Midleton don’t have a junior team our 2nd years sadly didn’t get a run today. Both teams will play Bandon away next Thursday Feb 8th in the next round. So the best of luck to our Minor and Junior teams in round 2.
