Second Year Trip to Kilkenny

Last Friday, Second Years went on their History School Tour to Kilkenny. Following an early start we arrived first in Dunmore Caves outside the city. This geological landform was fascinating giving us a glimpse into Irish history and geography spanning over 10,000 years. The cave has had links with ancient Irish religious  rituals, the Vikings and even a case of witchcraft from the sixteenth century. Following lunch in Kilkenny, the group went on a tour of Kilkenny Castle. This castle boasts over 700 years of Irish History and was the home of the Butlers, Dukes of Ormonde , a very powerful Anglo-Irish family. A very enjoyable day was had by all.
