Lord Mayor visits Scoil Mhuire gan Smál

Second year students and staff of SMGS warmly greeted the Lord Mayor Cllr. John Sheehan and his wife the Lady Mayoress Aedamar Sheehan on their visit to the school earlier today. In his address to the students, the Lord Mayor welcomed all Blarney students to the city of Cork after the recent changes to the city boundaries. He commended Scoil Mhuire gan Smál on the school’s achievements and in particular, the school’s achievements in the field of Green Schools. He also praised the power that young people have in bringing about change following the recent climate action protests.

The Lord Mayor presented the school with a framed picture of two of the most significant Lord Mayors in Cork history - Tomás MacCurtin and Terence McSweeney to commemorate 100 years of the school visits.

It was a pleasure to welcome the Lord Mayor and the Lady Mayoress to the school and the students were overjoyed when the Lord Mayor announced that second years were free from all homework for tonight!
