SMGS Soccer Update

It was the end of the road for Blarney Boys teams in the Munster soccer competitions.

The U15s had a tough draw against Presentation College in their second round match, but a poor performance on the day was a big disappointment, conceding soft goals in the first half and not playing as a team. The second half showing was much better, Conor Harrington scoring twice to give some respectability to the scoreline.

The first year team were away to Davis College in the first round, and a great game of soccer went this way and that, with Blarney finally emerging victorious by 4 goals to 3. There were great performances all over the pitch, especially Callum Coade, Lucas McClusky, Scott O'Sullivan and Sean O'Keeffe. Sean, Scott, Reece Thornhill and Jamie Kendellen were the scorers.

The next round was a tough fixture, again against Presentation College, and although the team battled well, we were beaten by the better team. Daryl Magner scored a goal soon after coming on to make it 3-1, but we let in another goal chasing the game at the final whistle. Good performances on the day from Emmet O’Callaghan, Darragh Gilmartin and Brady Walsh.

The U17s, U15s and First Years now have the Cork Competition to look forward to in the spring.
