SMGS Senior Camogie through to the Munster Final

The Senior Camogie team played Ballincollig Community School in Cork Colleges Ground, Castle Road, Mahon last Tuesday. The stakes were very high for the game as the winners would be crowned the Cork Colleges Intermediate A champions and they would also be through to the Munster Colleges Intermediate A final.

The conditions were tough for both sets of teams, however, Blarney played with the strong breeze in the first half. They took full advantage of the wind and opened the score with a point by wing forward, Emma Murphy.  Danielle Hendley backed this up with a point of her own. Superb play from wing back, Jen Murphy and centre forward Fiona Bourke lead to a goal by Orla Cremen. Orla followed this up with another goal which resulted from a great pass from Denise Buckley. Jen Murphy and Fiona Bourke followed with scores of their own and Blarney were well on top. Mid way through the first half though, BCS improved by playing a third midfielder. This resulted in a goal and three points for them. Blarney were up 2-5 to 1-3 at half time.

Blarney settled early on in the second half with a goal from Aoibhín Kiely which was followed up by an array of scores from Jen Murphy, Emma Murphy and Danielle Hendley. BCS kept the pressure on with a goal and two points in the last ten minutes, however, a great display of defending from Orla Cronin, Jen Dillon and Jen Murphy ensured that Blarney were comfortable winners on a score line of 3-10 to 2-5. The cup was presented to captain Emma Murphy on behalf of the Blarney team. The girls will now play Carrignavar in the Munster Intermediate A Final in Blarney, the date which must yet be confirmed. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Well done to all of the girls on a superb win.
