Leaving Cert Class of 2020 - Drive in Graduation.
To our Leaving Cert class of 2020,
We are delighted once again to invite you all to our Leaving Cert Graduation Ceremony on Thursday 11th June at 7 pm on the school pitch, weather permitting. We hope you can all join us with your parents to what we hope that will be an enjoyable evening for the Class of 2020 and their teachers and management.
Because of the strict rules regarding gathering of people at present, we will have to have a strict protocol that must be followed to manage our engagement on the night. Please take note of these rules.
We have permission from the Gardaí in Blarney to run this event so they have allowed us to do so under the following rules.
1. All students attending the Graduation ceremony will do so with their parents and will not enter unless accompanied by same. Students not required to be in school uniform.
2. All students and their parents will be brought in groups so as to avoid any traffic issues on the road outside.
Groups are as follows:
6.20 – 6.30 Students Names from Ahern – Hartnett
6.30 – 6.40 Student Names from Healy - O Connell
6.40 – 6.50 Student Names from O Connor – Yelverton.
It is essential that students and parents stick to this schedule please.
3. Cars will be directed straight to the back pitch and will be allocated parking spaces at 2 metres distances to fulfil all requirements.
4. The gates will shut prior to the start and nobody will be allowed enter after that time
5. Students and their parents will be allowed to stand by the cars during the presentation.
6. Students will be required to come to the stage at certain times when requested, but we assume that they will use 2 metre social distancing from others when they do so.
7. Candles will be given to all Leaving Cert students so we will ask all students to provide some means of lighting their own candle and to have some protection from the wind if necessary.
8. When the ceremony is over there will perhaps be some opportunity for students and teachers to talk and for the teachers to wish the students well in their future endeavours.
9. All cars will be moved from the pitch in an orderly fashion after the event to ensure there are no queues.
10. Students are requested to return home with their parents and the Gardaí have strictly instructed that there will be no group gatherings in the village after the event.
11. The Gardaí will be present on the evening to make sure that all will proceed as planned.
We know this is not an ideal way of saying goodbye and farewell to our Leaving Cert Class of 2020, whose time in school was cut drastically short by this virus. However, we hope this will provide us with the opportunity to acknowledge the Class of 2020 and to reminisce about the times that you have had over the past 5/6 years in SMGS. Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday evening.
